Agrion Terra Farm Holidays
Crete for Wine lovers
This trip is about olive groves, olive farmers, olives and olive oil. We visit organic olive groves and enjoy light hiking in the countryside. If you want to help farmers harvest their olives for a little while, they would be delighted, but that's optional. Agriculture and culture are strongly linked in Crete, as you’ll soon discover!

A four days journey into the heart of Cretan culture; olive oil... Our purpose is to enlighten your understanding about olive oil, its positive effect to health and to give you the basic consumer tips that will help you select the best when you are "face to face" with a bottle of olive oil in the shop at your neighbourhood.

By the end of this trip, olive oil will never be the same to you! We give "hands-on" answers to questions like:

What do we mean with terms as: extra virgin, acidity, cold pressed, cold extracted, refined?

Are there different kinds of olive oil that one could you use in cooking, in salads, with fish or boiled vegetables?

Can we make ice-cream with olive oil?

We sample local varieties of olives and olive oil and find out how the Greeks cook with what Homer called “liquid gold.”

During this program we visit three traditional oil presses and three modern ones with different technologies applied. An expert shows you how professionals taste-sample extra-virgin olive oils, and how you, too, can judge them by looking for specific characteristics.

You learn a surprising lot about the many varieties of olive trees, different techniques of cultivation and oil extraction, the wonderful merits, but sometimes also the hidden defects, of extra-virgin olive oil, the characteristics of oils from different parts of Greece.

Minimum number of people per group = 4.
